Loughborough University Students
At present Loughborough University students do not have a Chess Club, and
student chess players are more than welcome to join us at Loughborough Chess
Club. Students are entitled to a discounted subscription fee of
£15 for the year.
In recent years the following students have played league chess with the
Loughborough club:
- International Master Mas Hafizulhelmi, who has played Board 1 for
Malaysia, was an undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering.
- Edmund Player (180), who is a British Championshire Qualifyer and a
member of the Suffolk team, was an undergraduate student in Computer
Science.
- Julian Chapman (180), who plays for Yorkshire, was a postgraduate
student in Mathematics.
- Peter Hunt (135E) was an undergraduate student in Mathematics.
- William Hoggarth was an undergraduate student in Computer Science.
- Stewart Gordon (graded 62, probably unrealistically) joined the club while studying for a PhD in Mathematical Sciences, and is still a member.
