About the Club
Loughborough Chess Club was founded about 1890 and currently is one of the
strongest clubs in the Leicestershire Chess League. For the 2009-10
season, the club has entered three teams in the League.
The club also organises a few annual tournaments:
- The Quickplay Championship (all your moves in 10 minutes),
normally at the beginning of October. The 2009 champion is Greg Adcock.
- The Xmas Lightning competition (10 seconds per move). The 2009 champion is Greg Adcock.
- The Club Championship (League
time controls), which runs throughout the season. This has not been held every year, and is currently on hold. Alan Jex won the last Championship in 2005.
Any chess player who drops in on a club evening can usually be sure of a
game. The most popular format is a 'friendly' 10 minutes game.
People who continue to attend the club are expected to pay an annual
subscription fee. Currently, the standard rate is £45.
