Summer Cups 2010
Leicestershire and Rutland Chess Association runs four Cups during the
summer months.
The Chapman Cup is an open, handicapped knockout tournament.
The Birstall Cup is a handicapped knockout tournament for first-round losers of the Chapman Cup. This year, second-round Chapman Cup losers were also admitted.
The Harrod Cup is a five-round rapidplay Swiss tournament for teams with an average grade not more than 125.
The Wylie Cup is a five-round rapidplay Swiss tournament for teams with an average grade not more than 175.
In 2009, we entered the following teams:
- Our first Chapman Cup team lost to eventual winners Spinney Hill in the second round.
- Our second Chapman Cup team lost to Market Harborough in the third round, but also played in the Birstall Cup by virtue of having a first-round bye. There, the third round was reached again, also meeting the match that was Spinney Hill, who went on to win this Cup as well!
- Our Harrod Cup team reached fourth place. This competition was won by Red Admiral 1.
- Our Wylie Cup team reached fourth place. This competition was won by Wigston.
Let's hope we can do better this time!
